Houseguests

It's here...a day I've both dreaded and looked forward to--we have houseguests this weekend. These aren't our first houseguests (let's call them "HGs" for short), but these are the first HGs that are neither related nor do they have a toddler/baby of their own. They have a high schooler and a college age child and have theoretically survived sleepless nights of endless crying and should have some understanding of this experience. However, I've met their lovely girls--one of them when she was a toddler around Boden's age, now--and I just don't believe they could have ever caused their parents any trouble at night (they might now, but not as young babes). I told Todd to warn them that Boden sometimes, without warning and oft without reason, has some yelling/crying at night...and the guest room is right next door to his room.

We gave the HGs fair warning and full disclosure but they insisted they knew what babies were like. Oh (insert nervous twitter), they know what their babies were like, not what this babe is like.

Ugh...of course, Boden was sleeping like a rock last week, but this week, he's got a cold and because we have company, it will probably turn into an ear infection and interrupted sleeping...for everyone.

As luck would have it...

Boden has been sick since last Friday (fever, cough, runny nose, lots of whining, totally crabby).  Since he couldn't go to daycare, Todd and I were "lucky" enough to stay home with him Tuesday and Wednesday.  Hmph.  I used to think that people with sick kids were at home baking cookies, servin' up chicken noodle soup, watching cartoon movies, and readjusting pillows and blankies...maybe that's how the scenario looks when your kid is 10, but, when your kid is 51 weeks old, that is not what happens.  I think babysitting an angry bear cub confined in the TV room would have been a more pleasant (and perhaps, rewarding) experience.  Boden gave a lot of feedback that whatever I was doing wasn't right.  Luckily (and this is the appropriate use of the word), Grandma and Grandpa Brown are home with Crabbypants today and I got to work!

Favorite things

Besides raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, one of my favorite things is when I go to pick up Boden from daycare and the older kids, who apparently keep an ever watchful eye on who pulls into the driveway, yell out a chorus of "It's Boden's mom", "Boden's mom is here!", and "Pat, Boden's mom is here to pick him up.". I suspect these kids are also great at informing Pat who wronged them during the day and the goings on of anyone who might be doing something forbidden, but, gosh, do I love hearing the words "Boden's mom" and knowing that that's me.

Little B had a rough week as three top teeth (it looks like the two front teeth and a fang) fought their way through his red inflamed gums to the surface. Considering everything that was going on in his mouth, he actually did fairly well sleeping and was mostly pleasant. Yesterday, though, he was stricken with either allergies (since everyone has mowed their lawn and the ragweed is out with a vengeance) or he got a cold: his nose produced oodles of green goop last night and it was plastered over most of his face this morning. Poor dude.
