On the move

August is crawling!  We knew it was coming when he started rocking back and forth on his hands and knees.  He's still working on perfecting it, but he's very proud of his new skills.  He seems to be anxious for standing up, so I think he'll be progressing quickly to using the furniture as his ally to help him get upright.  Time to get the baby gate back in place!

Graduation Day!

We attended Boden's preschool graduation this evening--it was short and sweet, as all parents of preschoolers would appreciate!  He still has another week left in his classroom but this marks a significant milestone.  After they were done handing out diplomas, one of the teachers announced "here is the graduating class of 2027!"  What??!  Yikes.

Halfway There

August turned 6 months old this week--it seems as if time has accelerated since I went back to work!  Yikes!  But, we celebrated this mini milestone with his regular check-up where he weighed in at just under 16 1/2 lbs.  He's not too hefty anymore but Todd continues to call him "chunko".  I call him "happy pants" because even through teething pain and two really bad colds this month, he continues to be pretty darn smiley.

We unfortunately also celebrated his first trip to urgent care this week.  His daycare teacher called one afternoon to tell me August's congestion (due to his aforementioned cold) seemed to be getting worse and she was concerned that his breathing was becoming more labored. After a call with a nurse for some advice, I had my briefcase packed up and was heading down the highway pretty quickly to go check him out.  While he was doing okay when I picked him up, a trip to urgent care seemed like a solid plan.  So we spent two hours there with a provider who looked like "the Rock" (not really a bad thing) and a respiratory therapist.  In the end, they determined August was just too stuffed up so they literally vacuumed out his nose which, although he didn't like it (understatement), the treatment was highly effective.  They sent us on our way with orders for saline and suction frequently.  So thankful it wasn't something worse!

I think this next month holds some fun development for August--maybe sitting on his own and I'm sure some teeth will erupt, too.  He continues to adore his big brother even when Boden is being a big stinker.  Unfortunately, August still thinks he needs to wake up in the night at least twice to visit with his momma...but he's usually very pleasant about it so what's to complain about?

When did he grow up?

The registration process for kindergarten is underway! While Boden won't start for another 9 + months, this year will be paved with mini steps marching us closer to that first day of actual school:  open enrollment forms, finding out which school Boden will go to, kindergarten open house, forms, forms and more forms, pre-school graduation,...etc.  Boden is totally ready for kindergarten academically, and probably socially, too, but I look back and think "when did this all happen?"  Obviously, it wasn't overnight and I know he has been learning gobs and gobs in preschool, but I kind of thought it would last longer...or feel like longer.  But we're quickly heading past little kid stuff to the "big time".  At Boden's teacher conferences last week, I told them I couldn't believe we'd have to say goodbye to his wonderful educators in May...a long way off still, I suppose, but it will be here sooner than I can keep up with!  I really hope we are lucky enough to get such caring, patient and fantastic teachers in the future.

First Graduation

Last week, Boden graduated from his first year of pre-school.  The ceremony which involved about 35 kids was cute and slightly chaotic.  When Boden saw us walk into the gym, he smiled, waved, starting blowing kisses and yelling "I love you, mom".  I didn't think I would feel like it was a big deal, but when I saw him sitting in the gym with his little graduation "cap" on and all his little classmates, I did get a wee bit emotional thinking about how quickly he was growing up.  He learned a lot over the last school year and made some good friends.  His teachers say he's very well behaved.  He has a little trouble listening to directions at times (sounds familiar), but is generally a good guy.
