Hi, followers!  I've moved the site to a new platform which means a new address.

Mom and the boys

Earlier this month the boys were woken up way too early to drive their mom to another race, kill some time for a bit with their dad, find a lousy parking spot kind of close in the town where the race ends, then go stand for an hour at the finish line where they yelled "MOM!!" at the top of their lungs and hoped for acknowledgment.  When I write this down, it really doesn't sound all that much fun but, I'm so happy to see them at the end after I find them among all the families and other runners.  And I do hear them at the finish most of the time...and it's the best sound :)

On Mothers Day, the three of us went on a lovely bike ride.  The day started off real crabby for everyone, but we worked through the sass and got out the door.  Boden did a fantastic job riding all the way (7miles!) on his kid bike in the heat (a uncharacteristically balmy MN day, 84 degrees).  We took a break at the coffee store and headed back home.  I was so proud of Boden for keeping a great attitude and making it the whole way without any complaining.  I had run an 11 mile run the day before so my legs were sore and Boden and I commiserated in our agony while going up a couple steep hills.  August rode in his burley like a champ.  He talked quite a bit but you can't hear much so I was hoping it wasn't anything urgent.  Anyway, maybe the best Mother's Day, yet.

tis the season

Last week we went to August's first holiday program--it was complete mayhem, as expected, when the talent is all under the age of 5 and they are up past their bedtimes on a school night.  August spent a fair amount of time hiding behind the stage curtain and holding onto his newly diaper free twig and berries, if you catch my meaning.  We couldn't have been prouder...groan.

a busy busy month

October proved to be an insanely busy month with moving (which would drive anyone insane all by itself!), work travel colliding with hunting trips, the boys' birthdays, Halloween, a new four-legged, furry family member and all the other stuff that goes along with just making life happen.  

Looking back on it, I'm exhausted by the memories but everything went by as it should.  Dax, the new furry family member is settling in; we moved without much incident And are enjoying many things about our new home and neighborhood, and the boys turned another year older.

Halloween night was misty but there were plenty of trick or treaters in the new neighborhood, many arriving via golf cart (!).

A real bang-up first day

Feels like it was just the Fourth of July and here we are at the end of August and first day of school.  It was a rough start to the morning because we were trying to suck the last bits out of the waning days of summer with our friends (blame the parents here).  But at pick-up from after school care, the mood was much improved. I asked Boden how the first day went and it was quote-unquote "great" and his teacher is "the best teacher ever"!  I have low expectations for him maintaining his enthusiasm the whole year but it was a real bang-up first day.

Speaking of bang-ups (see how I did that?), Augie got banged up on his already mosquito-bitten up face at school by a buddy and a truck.  Poor dude but he was able to pull a smile out for his momma this afternoon!

"I a big boy now"

And with that "big boy" status comes the honor and privilege of sleeping in a Big Boy Bed--which, at this point is just his crib with one side replaced with a toddler rail.  August is very proud of this new situation and we haven't had any challenges with him trying to "break out".  I said he could get out of bed if mommy tells him and, so far, he's listened!!  It's amazing.  Anyway, he's very happy to be in a bed and has already noted that his bed isn't as big as Boden's--that's for when you're even bigger, I said!  Smart one, that boy.

So long first grade!

Boden is officially a second grader!  He became a much better reader in first grade and learned a lot about personal responsibility. He maintained some of his friends from Kindergarten, made some new friends, and still made some time for Mrs. P who I think will always hold a special place in his heart.  Can't wait to see what second grade adventures are ahead, but for now, we're happy to enjoy the sun and the longer days of summer.
