What's up, monkeybutt?

With the gentle urging of my daycare lady, I called the nurse line on Friday to see if Boden should come in for a visit (his 2nd this week). I explained that he'd been coughing so hard at night it was waking him up (yes, we were up even more than usual) and that he had goop in his eyes each morning. The nurse explained that at his age, they definitely want to see him if he isn't able to sleep because of violent coughing...while I wouldn't describe his coughing as violent, I wasn't going to argue with her. I hung up feeling, once again, like a horrible parent. I wasn't even going to call--it's a cold, for goodness sake. There's people who call the pediatrician every day over some worry and then there's me--unless there's a limb hanging off him the wrong way or it's missing, I'm not likely to call.
Anyway, I picked him up from daycare, took him to the pediatrician and he was diagnosed with a double ear infection and an eye infection. But there was absolutely no concern over his cough :)
The antibiotics are a real treat--not only does Boden possess the strength of a pro wrestler every time he sees the syringe filled with the (supposedly tasty) apple flavored antibiotic, but it makes him PFB (this is the acronym for the well-known but not often talked about "pee from butt" affliction) about every 2 1/2 minutes. Slight exaggeration, but yesterday, I swear we went through a bajillion diaper changes. And, multiple bouts of PFB, of course, leads to monkey butt. After the fourth diaper change in like an hour, I removed Boden's diaper and noted his flaming pink buns--he let me know it hurt like heck by screaming his melon off when I dabbed the wet wipes on them. Poor guy. Todd was summoned to retrieve a larger tube of diaper ointment and we coated Boden's entire pelvic region in Boudreaux's Butt Paste.
Day three into the antibiotics and nap time has gone all awry, BD's butt is still a little pink, though much improved, and he's thinking up new tactics to avoid the antibiotic.

Somehow monkeybutt sounds whole lot cuter than PFB. Hmmm... I'm glad Boden is on the mend - hopefully you're starting to catch up on some sleep! That picture is awesome, in any case. What a cute kid! (Even cuter in person.)

Thanks, I tend to think he's adorable, too. I wish he was a little happier when we actually venture out to social gatherings, but all his charm seems to dissipate in the afternoon. If we could just go to a party at 6 am everyone would see how wonderful he is :)
