Get in my belly!

Boden has become quite interested in food...mostly all the things I don't want him to be interested in, yet. So, we finally bought a high chair and are trying to be a little more consistent with eating solids.
As a dietitian and lover of all veggies (all right, I don't LOVE parsnips, but I'll eat them), I assume I will be a good example for Boden. I have visions of being one of those parents who brags that their kid devours asparagus and Brussel sprouts. He's tried two vegetables so far, now, and we're 0 for 2...my vision of veggie bragging rights is shattering and I'm freaking out about it. He loves pears, bananas are pretty good, but the sweet potatoes and carrots (I didn't plan for both of his first veggies to be orange--it just worked out that way) make him grimace and cough. He literally holds them in his mouth as if I gave him a spoonful of [insert anything awful and not meant to be consumed by humans] and coughs and makes gagging sounds. It's ridiculous. Peas are next on the vegetable docket and we'll see what melodrama unfolds over that experience.
Outside of fruits, vegetables and cereal, he also had some graham cracker, recently--really he gummed it up into a fine paste that stuck to his pj's, face, hands, Sloan's ear, the high chair...etc. When it was mixed with the snot that continually pours from his nose, it formed a compound that I'm convinced is as strong and hard as cement--I could barely get it chiseled off of his face.
So, we continue down the adventurous path of discovering new foods. It's a messy, sticky path, but I'm excited to see what he likes/doesn't like...and if I have the patience to deal with his distaste for foods I absolutely adore.
