13 weeks old

Boden is 13 weeks old this week--not much new since I last wrote. I think one of the biggest changes over the past couple weeks is how alert he's become--he loves to look around and take everything in in with a constant look of wonderment in eyes. He often has no time for cuddling, unless it's sleepytime or if he just woke up from a nap--he wants to stand on his feet and face outwards so he can see what's going on. My friend Jean stopped by to visit him yesterday and was remarking how he won't sit--he just wants to stand. I explained it's probably because he's as inflexible as his mother and it probably hurts his hip flexors to sit ;)

When I have the Today show on in the morning, I put a towel over the screen because he is suddenly really into "watching" TV--I'm not trying to grow a couch potato, so we need to be careful about that.

While he's crying less in the evening, he seems to have a few more outbursts during the day. And, as he's drifting off to sleep he rubs his nose and face all over my shoulder and is generally irritable--as if falling asleep were a painful irritation...I don't get it. Once again, I wish he could just use his words and tell me what's going on.

Most of the time, Boden is just waking up once in the middle of the night (between 2 and 3) and then awakens again around 6 or 7...in general we are all sleeping a little better. Last night was an exception, I hope--he was literally flopping around like a fish out of water from about 1-2:30 last night when I finally picked him up (he immediately cuddled in and started to snore), woke him up, and practically forced him to nurse in his grogginess. After that, he slept soundly--he must have just been trying to wake up for that hour and a half...he's like his dad: waking up is a chore and takes a LONG time. I don't have the time or energy for that in the wee hours of the night, though--maybe he'll grow out of it??

We're getting a little cabin fever around here--it's been too cold outside to go for walks and walking/running around the track at the Field House is not doin' it for me anymore. I bundled Boden up yesterday and put him in his stroller for a walk around the neighborhood--I thought it would be good for both of us and the dogs to get some sunshine. We walked around the block twice and he screamed through most of it. If anyone saw us, they must have thought I was crazy because I was smiling away--screaming outdoors sure dissipates the noise better than when you're surrounded by walls :) I don't think he likes his snowsuit--that's my guess anyway. I'm sure he felt a little constricted when he was all bundled up, but it's still too cold for him to expose much skin. Praying for some warmer weather before I head back to work!

Oh, I almost forgot, until li'l Boden reminded me--he's begun to laugh! More like a chuckle as he's testing out this new sound he can make. What a wonderful sound it is! He's really coy about letting laughs out--or maybe they sneak up on him-- but I hope to get one on video soon.
