We fought the pacifier and the pacifier won

After 3 1/2 weeks of basically acting as Boden's chew toy, I promptly discarded my opinion that pacifiers are evil--and now, we're all a little bit happier.

Now, we're trying to learn when he is being fussy and just wants to suck on something versus when he is hungry--gosh, why can't he just TELL us? I've never been good at reading people's body language so this watching for cues business is a bit challenging. It reminds me of being in softball and I remember the sign for stealing a base was if the coach ran his hand over something that started with "S"-- his sleeve being the obvious choice, however, whenever I was watching him I would think of all the different words for other places he was touching...like if he touched his hat, was it hat, cap, lid, and was there a word for hat that started with s that I wasn't thinking of?? Being on base made me very anxious and obviously I was overthinking the whole situation--as I likely am with Boden. If I offer him a bottle or nipple of other sorts and he sucks on it, he's hungry, period. Let it go, right?

The pacifier has helped but it's not the answer to all things. Last night, he spit the pacifier out, wasn't happy in the co-sleeper or the swing, didn't want to be held, and turned his head away from the bottle but promptly fell asleep after 2 minutes of holding him while standing up swaying side to side--not sure what his sign was for that...I think he touched his sleeve. Did that mean "sway"?
