Caught in the act

After over a week of trying to snap a picture of Boden smiling, I FINALLY got it. Right now, his smile is a little elusive--you don't know when it's coming; it could precede a fit of crying, burping, or tooting. And, it's definitely not in response to seeing his mom (the one who spends the most time with him, who tirelessly gets up with him all night long, the one who has a new respect for dairy cows)--no, I'm likely not to be rewarded with an actual smile meant especially for me for another week or two...but I'm really looking forward to it.

Boden is developing, though. He's spending more time awake during the day, sleeping for longer periods during the night (sometimes) and he's now making eye contact and tracking objects with his eyes for short distances (until he gets bored with it). It's amazing how something so small like having eye contact with your newborn seems like a really big deal--he's acknowledging Todd and I exist versus looking over our shoulders at something better. We're starting to feel like we matter to him and that's pretty great.
