Teething sounds awful

I've been doing some reading on teething since our last ped visit in anticipation of this much discussed momentous event. I've been preparing for serious irritability, sleepless nights, lots of drooling and general discomfort...on top of dealing with whatever symptoms Boden will be dishing out. I thought I saw some signs (drool rash on his chin, a couple of inexplicable cry fests at night that may have actually been gassy tummy, although the boy can lay down the heat seemingly without any discomfort, so really it's all a guess), but, at this age, I'm learning that parents blame teething for anything they can't explain. And I've been poking around his gums for days and haven't felt a thing. Besides, I tend to chalk any issues he's having up to his general temperament and assumed that the tooth demon would take over and make him completely and noticeably rotten for a few days while we dealt with an erupting tooth.
Then, on Tuesday I came home from work and entered to the sound of him angrily protesting a nap. While I was nursing him, Todd came into the room and asked if I felt anything...no. He mouthed that G'ma and G'pa Brown discovered a tooth coming through earlier that day. My first reaction was "alright! Milestone - check". Then I got really sad and thought about how quickly he's growing up--granted, these have been nearly the longest 6 1/2 months of my life (because I have been awake almost nonstop for 6 1/2 months), but still.
Thus far (I'm sure I'm about to jinx myself, here, but why not?), the teething thing has been relatively painless (for me and Todd). We've had some interesting behavior to deal with on a few evenings, but nothing drastically different from the norm. In fact, I'm glad we weren't in some cozy, comfy nighttime sleep pattern that would have been disrupted by the teething process. Best to wait until after this whole teething disaster is over before we try to focus on better sleeping, right...yea, there's the silver lining. Nothing but smooth sailing from here :)
While Boden is forbidding me to get a good look at the budding front tooth which is oh-so-slowly poking it's way through his gum, I did feel it with my finger...and it seems quite sharp--like the term "cutting teeth" is painfully accurate. With the intro of the single tooth, Boden's look is going to transform from adorable-angry-old-man-without-his-dentures-in into adorable-angry-old-man-with-bad-oral-hygiene-who-is-missing-a-lot-of-teeth. A picture with the proof of the tooth is forthcoming as soon as this pearly white makes it's appearance.
