So, what do the dogs think?

About Boden, that is. Lord only knows what they are thinking most of the time...actually, if I had to guess, I would suppose that most of Bueller's thoughts contain a lot of expletives--potentially directed at me. He's full of angst, which I thought was a teenage thing, but now that he's almost 8, I guess we have to admit that it's just his personality.

And, regarding Boden, I think Bueller has only become more demanding and less tolerant. Let me count how many things Bueller has destroyed since Boden has arrived in our home...1. a plush rattle, 2. a breast pump valve, 3. a little plastic toy Owen left at our house (by the way, Rick, I won't be returning Owen's little plastic pirate), 4. countless tissues, 5-7. three bottle caps (three separate occasions), and he's been working on destroying Boden's Winnie the Pooh bear since Christmas (right now, Pooh's just got some boo boos). Surveying that list, you'll see that the majority of the items are directly related to Boden--I think Bueller is sending a message and it's not pleasant.

It's not too surprising that Bueller would be unwelcoming towards someone who gets even more attention than him; he was an only "child" for three years and he nearly disowned us when we brought Sloan home (I think he's still waiting for her to leave). Boden's arrival was the last straw for him, I guess. He's now constantly naughty.

Sloan, on the other hand, is a little more curious over the new guy and she thinks he's full of lots of interesting smells and even throws him a few kisses when he comes home from places. She definitely does not get the attention she used to and she is so extremely sensitive that it makes me sad to see her ears droop when I don't have time to pet her.

Overall, the dogs are adjusting in their own ways to Boden and I hope they will all become friends in the years to come. I think they'll learn in the next several months that Boden could be the source of lots of tasty treats if they hang around him. That should help them warm up to him.
